The HBCU Scholarship Ride began in 2020, when founder Hassan Abdus-Sabur rallied a few fellow cyclists around a simple but powerful vision: ride from Newark to Washington D.C. to raise scholarship funds for graduating students from the City of Newark.
What started as a bold ride of purpose quickly grew into a movement—uniting community, culture, and commitment.
Since that first 225+ mile journey to Howard University, the Ride has raised thousands of dollars, empowered local students, and inspired a growing network of supporters who believe in investing in the next generation of HBCU leaders.
We believe that every student deserves a clear path to higher education, regardless of financial obstacles. That’s why we ride from Newark to Washington D.C. to fuel the dreams of future HBCU graduates and invest in the communities they come from.
Learn how we’re turning stories into scholarships, rides into resources, and vision into opportunity.
